Alexandra Dariescu has forged an artistic path entirely her own. Through imaginative programming that continually expands the piano repertoire, she places cherished classics in unexpected dialogue with major revivals and premieres of works by Clara Schumann, Nadia Boulanger, Doreen Carwithen and Dora Pejačević. Dariescu’s innate ability to reimagine the way audiences experience classical music has also contributed to the worldwide success of "The Nutcracker and I", her pioneering multimedia recital production.

A sought-after soloist worldwide, Dariescu has forged strong ties with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Detroit Symphony and Melbourne Symphony. Eminent collaborations include the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, the London, Royal Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestras and the Sydney, Houston, Seattle and Vancouver Symphonies. The 2026/27 season opened with Dariescu’s much-anticipated BBC Proms debut, performing Nadia Boulanger’s “Fantaisie variée” with the Hallé and Kahchun Wong in the work’s first Proms performance, at a sold-out Royal Albert Hall. A major highlight sees Dariescu return to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra as Featured Artist for a three-week residency, performing piano concertos by Germaine Tailleferre, Chopin, Ravel and Beethoven, alongside chamber music by Camille Pépin, Beethoven, Clara and Robert Schumann. Further afield, Dariescu gives the North American premiere of Leokadiya Kashperova's Piano Concerto with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under Jader Bignamini and debuts with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. She also returned to the Royal Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras and made her Southbank Centre Piano Recital Series debut.

In 2017, Dariescu took the world by storm with "The Nutcracker and I", a pioneering multimedia piano recital with dance and digital animation. It has since enjoyed international acclaim and drawn thousands of young audiences into concert halls across Europe, Australia, China, the Emirates and the US, realising Dariescu’s vision of making classical music accessible to the wider public. The production’s 100th performance was celebrated in November 2024 at the Barbican Centre, with recent notable presentations at Beijing’s NCPA, Paris’ La Seine Musicale, Konzerthaus Dortmund and the Megaron Athens Concert Hall.

A passionate advocate for inclusive repertoire, Alexandra Dariescu’s recent highlights include UK premieres and revivals of works by Dora Pejačević and Doreen Carwithen with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and the world premiere of James Lee III’s "Shades of Unbroken Dreams", written for her, with the Detroit Symphony and BBC Philharmonic. As a feature for BBC Radio 3's "Composer of the Week", Dariescu made the world premiere recording of the piano concerto by Leokadiya Kashperova (1900), live in studio with the BBC Symphony.

Deeply committed to education and cultural leadership, Dariescu co-created the educational concerts “Count Me In!” and “One Voice Above the Crowd” with conductor Tim Redmond, developed for the London Symphony Orchestra and the Leeds International Piano Competition. In 2024, she launched the Alexandra Dariescu Award, the first prize of its kind in the history of the Leeds Competition, recognising outstanding performances of works by female composers.

Dariescu has released eleven critically acclaimed albums. Her latest releases include Doreen Carwithen’s Piano Concerto with Manchester Camerata and “A Child’s Dream”, a concept album recorded with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, bringing together Mozart and contemporary composers.
